Our Chimney Services

Comprehensive chimney care for your home's safety and efficiency

Local Chimney Sweep And Cleaning

Creosote builds up every time you burn wood - and it's the #1 cause of chimney fires. We clean the full flue system from top to firebox, removing soot, glazed creosote, and blockages so your chimney draws properly and your family stays safe.

Chimney Inspection

Level 1, 2, or 3 - we match the inspection to the situation. Buying a home? Level 2 with video. Annual checkup? Level 1 covers it. We document everything with photos and give you a clear report, not a sales pitch.

Chimney Repair

Cracked crowns, crumbling mortar joints, damaged flue tiles - we fix what's broken before it becomes a bigger problem. Most repairs take a day or less, and we'll show you exactly what needs work before we start.

Chimney Cap Installation

A chimney without a cap is an open invitation for rain, raccoons, and downdrafts. We install stainless steel and copper caps with built-in spark arrestors, custom-sized to fit your flue opening exactly.

Chimney Liner

Older chimneys often have cracked clay tiles or no liner at all - both are fire hazards. We install stainless steel and cast-in-place liners that meet current code and actually improve your draft.

Chimney Masonry Repair

Brick and mortar don't last forever, especially in humid climates. We repoint deteriorated joints, replace spalled bricks, and match existing materials so the repair blends in. Catches water problems before they reach your interior walls.

Chimney Flashing Repair

That dark stain on your ceiling near the chimney? Probably failed flashing. We remove the old material, install new step and counter flashing, and seal everything properly. Stops leaks at the source.

Chimney Rebuilds

When repair isn't enough, we rebuild. From the roofline up or from the foundation - depends on how far the damage goes. New masonry, new liner, new cap, new flashing. Done right so you won't need us again for decades.

Chimney Animal Removal

Scratching sounds? Foul smell? Birds, squirrels, and raccoons love chimneys. We remove them humanely, clear out nesting material, and cap the flue so they can't get back in.

Fireplace Cleaning

Ash piling up in the firebox, soot on the damper, smoke stains on the surround - we clean it all. Includes the firebox, smoke shelf, and damper assembly. Your fireplace will look and work like it should.

Chimney Fireplace Repair

Smoke pouring into the room instead of going up? Damper stuck? Cracked smoke chamber? We diagnose the actual problem - not guess - and fix it. Most fireplace issues are straightforward once you know where to look.

Firebox Repair

Cracked firebricks and deteriorated refractory panels are more than cosmetic - they let heat reach combustible framing behind the wall. We replace damaged bricks and mortar with proper heat-rated materials.

Gas Fireplace Cleaning

Gas fireplaces still need annual service. Dust coats the burner and logs, the pilot assembly corrodes, and the glass fogs up. We clean the full unit - burner, pilot, glass, and venting - so it runs clean and stays under warranty.

Gas Fireplace Repair

Pilot won't stay lit? No heat? Remote stopped working? We troubleshoot gas fireplace issues from thermocouples to valve assemblies. Certified on all major brands - Heatilator, Lennox, Napoleon, Majestic, and more.

Wood Stove Repair

Door gaskets wear out, baffles warp, glass cracks. We service all wood stove brands - replace worn parts, adjust the door seal, and make sure your stove drafts correctly. Gets your heat output back where it should be.

Pellet Stove Repair

Auger jams, igniter failures, control board errors - pellet stoves have more moving parts than most people realize. We diagnose and repair the issue, clean the exhaust path, and get your stove feeding and burning properly again.

Duct Cleaning

Your HVAC pushes air through every duct in the house - along with whatever's living in them. Dust, pet dander, mold spores, construction debris. We clean the full system and you'll notice the difference in air quality immediately.

Dryer Duct Cleaning

Lint in your dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen - it's one of the top causes of house fires nationally. We clean the full run from the dryer to the exterior vent. Clothes dry faster, energy bill drops, fire risk gone.

Commercial Air Duct Cleaning

Restaurants, offices, multi-unit buildings - commercial ductwork collects grease, dust, and allergens at scale. We schedule after hours to keep your business running and bring your system up to health code standards.

Chimney Liner Installation

December 5, 2025 Sleepy Hole
Problem

Customer had a corroded, rusted chase top and flue cap with soot and surface rust around the vent, which was allowing staining on the wood shingle siding and likely water intrusion. Inside the firebox there was visible creosote/soot and ash build-up from prior use despite a recently painted surround, and the existing chase flashing showed signs of deterioration and previous patching.

Solution

Removed the old rusted chase top and deteriorated vent cap, installed a new stainless chase cover and a large metal chimney cap, and replaced/sealed the roof-to-chimney flashing and surrounding trim to stop water entry. Cleaned the firebox of creosote and ash, set and verified the ceramic gas log set and glass-front gas insert operation, and ensured the new chase cover and cap fit tight to eliminate the previous rust and staining issues.

Fireplace and chimney are now clean, properly capped and sealed; the gas insert and log set operate normally and the exterior staining and water intrusion risk have been addressed. Customer left with a safer, more watertight chimney and improved appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from Suffolk

What's the typical cost for a chimney sweep and Level 1 inspection in Suffolk, VA, and what factors influence that price? LOCAL

+

In Suffolk, chimney sweep services typically cost between $175 and $375. This range is influenced by the type of chimney you have and its condition. Historic homes may require more intricate services. Our coastal climate can lead to moisture accumulation, which increases creosote buildup over time. Thus, if heavy issues arise during an inspection, those will factor into the final cost. We provide a clear quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

Living in Suffolk, we get our fair share of nor'easters and hurricane threats. What specific chimney services should I consider to prepare my home for this severe weather? LOCAL

+

For Suffolk residents, preparing for severe weather like nor'easters requires special attention. We recommend a thorough pre-season inspection of your chimney's exterior. Particularly, ensure your chimney cap is secure to prevent rain and animal entry. Checking the chimney crown for cracks is necessary, as moisture can lead to serious issues during freeze-thaw cycles. Also, ensure the flashing is intact, as damaged flashing is a common source of leaks. Addressing these areas is vital for protecting your home against Virginia's storms.

What's the best time of year to schedule my annual chimney inspection and cleaning in Suffolk, and how far in advance should I book? LOCAL

+

In Suffolk, the best time to schedule your annual chimney inspection is during the off-season, ideally from late spring through summer. This way, you avoid the influx of requests that typically occur in the fall. Waiting until a cool snap often leads to longer wait times. Booking your inspection by Labor Day allows time for any necessary repairs before you're ready to fire up the fireplace for the season.

My Suffolk home is surrounded by trees and wildlife. How do I know if animals have built nests in my chimney, and is that a serious safety risk in Virginia? LOCAL

+

In Suffolk, it's essential to be vigilant about potential animal nests in your chimney, as wildlife like squirrels and raccoons can create serious hazards. A nest can block smoke and toxic gases, leading to dangerous backflow into your home. This is a significant safety concern emphasized in the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code. Having a professional inspect your chimney helps ensure it's clear and safe. Installing a quality chimney cap can prevent these critters from nesting, keeping your fireplace safe for use.

Are annual chimney inspections legally required for homeowners in Suffolk, VA? LOCAL

+

In Suffolk, while there isn’t a mandatory law for annual chimney inspections, it’s strongly recommended for safety. The Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code requires chimneys to be maintained in a safe condition. Home inspections highlight that having proof of annual inspections can also be a requirement of homeowners' insurance policies. To ensure both your safety and compliance, we treat the national recommendation as essential, especially considering the hazards posed by our humid climate.
